Laptop VS. Notebooks/pens for college?

I am starting college this fall and I was wondering if it was even necessary for me to make a trip to staples to buy notebooks and pens/pencils. I have a macook pro laptop that im planning on bringing to all of my classes, so if i take notes on that and stuff, do i even need the typical school supplies, or will professors require I have them?
