How can I get my macbook to perform faster?

I have an original white macbook. I got it in december and it is already really slow. Are there any programs or things i can to to speed it up?

   i have a imac and its GHZ is 2.66 and when i log in it only take 4 secs before i can do anything and i have more then 2,000 photos, 300 songs, 40 movies and tv shows
