How to get Adobe Photoshop CS3 from my old Mac to my new one?

DeliciouslyDark asked:

When I had Adobe Photoshop installed onto my old Mac, I didn’t buy a disk or anything. Someone I know had a technician over and told me that I could have a number of programs installed onto my laptop, Adobe Photoshop amongst them. So what is a way I can transfer it onto my new Mac? I tried copying the application onto my new Mac using a flash disk, but it didn’t open, there was some sort of error. Can anybody help?

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you have a pirated copy. Did you get a serial number for it and did you register it? If so, contact Adobe, they may be able to help.

It does sound like you have pirated copy.

Either way you can not simply copy the application (as you noticed).
It has to be “installed” (usually from the original DVD, or in the case of a pirated copy, an image of the DVD). You should ask the “technician” you had and ask about the installation files for the copy they gave you.

You will need the serial number (and if you had a legal copy registered with adobe you could call them for help).

    – Edit:

If it turns out you do not have a legal copy of Photoshop and you do not want to pirate it, you could try Gimp. It’s free and has mostly the same functions as Photoshop (although a bit harder interface to learn):
